I am bringing back the genre of spaghetti western with my new trendy painting. In 1964, the genre of western died in Hollywood so the Italians invaded the American genre and made it their own. Now, spaghetti westerns are dead, so as an American artist I made my own and altered/invaded the genre to revolve around Italian fashion.
I dubbed a Dolce & Gabbana advertisement and provided the viewer with suspenseful, wild, and extreme close-ups that create a dialogue between all of the pieces. Each painting speaks to the violence, extremities, and oddities within Italy in the language of paint.
If the Italians could critique Americans with our own iconography, then I can critique them with their fashion, which exhibits their lack of national identity. Everything you see is fashionably reused and repurposed.
Here is how to paint a trendy spaghetti western:
1. Find something to copy/dub/imitate and transform it with your own ideas.
2. Remake it with speed and passion so there is a feeling of suspense and violence.
3. Make sure there are actors popping in and out of scenes in order to create a strong narrative.
4. Extreme close ups and very wide shots to create dialogue between each piece.
5. Add glitter for the element of surprise.
